Charle, Sam and Courtney have been accepted to represent Canada and participate in the 2012 Pan American Youth Climbing Championships in Santiago, Chile in mid-November. These awesome kids have worked very hard throughout the 2011/12 season in order to qualify for this event. For these young Canadians to qualify to compete on the international stage is difficult enough and requires a great deal of dedication to the climbing discipline.
Charle - Age 152012.11.21:
____________________________________ Bio In only her third year of climbing, Charle ended the 2011/12 season being selected to the Canadian Youth National Team (Girls B). She trained extensively over the summer holidays and traveled to Singapore in August to compete for Canada at the World Youth Climbing Championships. Despite a torrential downpour which started through her second climb, Charle pulled off a respectable 41st finish. This is quite an accomplishment for a "first-timer". The experience of competing at the International level is one which every climber hopes to achieve. Charle now has the opportunity to once again compete at this level and will bring her enthusiasm and love of sport with her throughout the journey. |
Sam - Age 122012.11.21:
____________________________________ Bio After starting at age 8 in a recreational program, Sam quickly developed the skills necessary to be invited onto the gym's elite competitive team. This past year, the 2011/12 season, Sam placed 1st in many local competitions, was awarded the Provincial Championship for Difficulty, and finished the Ontario Series with an overall placing of 2nd. He has also competed at the National level for the past two seasons. The opportunity to represent Canada at the upcoming PanAmerican Championships will instil a lifelong foundation of the requirements and dedication necessary for such elite competition - a lesson learned only through experience. He is training with an increased vigour and enthusiasm as he prepares for this amazing opportunity. It is his goal to continue to climb the locals on up to the most elite comps and to join the Canadian National Team (at the age of 14) for Worlds in the years to come. |
Courtney - Age 122012.11.19:
We are in Santiago, and it is very hot. I am excited for the Pan Am to start. On Wednesday the 21st is the opening ceremonies that have been rescheduled to noon. _________________________________________ Bio Since Courtney has started competitive climbing 5 years ago, she has always excelled to be one the of top climbers in her divisions for difficulty, speed, or bouldering. She has earned first place in the Canadian National Climbing Championships in each of the past 3 years. Courtney has also been awarded the Canadian National Cup the last three years in a row for overall points across Canada in her respective division. In 2010 Courtney came home with a Bronze from Ecuador for speed climbing, and was one of only three Canadians that had won a medal. Courtney's goal is to be selected onto the National Climbing team and represent Canada in the World Youth Competition in 2014. She also hopes to represent Canada in the 2020 Olympics. |
